Tamara Thomas
National Director
Tamara Thomas is the National Director of UnitingCare Australia, bringing more than 20 years of experience in international development, humanitarian advocacy and institutional leadership.
Prior to returning to Australia in 2025, Tamara served with the United Nations Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) as Director of Resource Mobilisation, where she advanced health equity and built strategic partnerships at the highest levels of global diplomacy. Her career also spans senior roles with Oxfam International, World Vision Australia and Australian Volunteers International, advocating for gender justice, human rights and evidence based policy for marginalised communities.
In her current role as National Director, Tamara is focused on strengthening UnitingCare Australia’s national network by elevating the lived experience of people and communities to government. Through strong, evidence‑based advocacy, she works to shape policy settings that enable high‑quality care and support across the country. Her vision is grounded in social justice, dignity and equity—ensuring all Australians, particularly those facing disadvantage, can access the quality care and essential services they need, when they need them.
