UnitingCare Australia welcomes cabinet promotion of Minister for Aged Care
UnitingCare Australia warmly congratulates the Hon Anika Wells MP on her promotion to Cabinet in her capacity as Minister for Aged Care and Minister for Sport. This announcement marks a significant milestone in recognising the critical importance of the aged care sector and the millions of Australians it supports.
As a long-standing advocate for the elevation of aged care to a Cabinet-level portfolio, UnitingCare Australia commends the leadership demonstrated by the Prime Minister in taking this decisive step. This decision sends a message that aged care is a national priority deserving of the highest level of political attention and oversight.
“We are thrilled to see Minister Wells’ dedication and commitment to aged care acknowledged in this way,” said Claerwen Little, National Director of UnitingCare Australia. “The elevation of this portfolio reflects the vital role aged care plays in the wellbeing of older Australians, their families and the broader community.”
The aged care sector is at a critical juncture, facing increasing demand, workforce challenges and a need for sustainable funding to deliver high-quality care. Older Australians, their families and the sector will also be adjusting to a new Aged Care Act from 1 July 2025. By bringing aged care to the Cabinet table, the Government has demonstrated its commitment to addressing these challenges and ensuring older Australians receive the care and respect they deserve.
UnitingCare Australia looks forward to continuing its collaboration with Minister Wells and the Government to advance reforms and deliver lasting improvements for the aged care system.
