UnitingCare Australia welcomes release of 20,000 home care packages to strengthen aged care system

UnitingCare Australia is relieved by the Government’s decision to immediately release 20,000 much needed home care packages to ensure more older Australians are supported to live independently in their homes.

“We welcome this action to expand access to home care and thank all the people who have worked tirelessly to make this a reality”, said Claerwen Little, National Director of UnitingCare Australia. “These packages will provide vital relief for older Australians and their families, so that they can live with dignity as they age.”

Ms Little said the UnitingCare Australia Aged Care Network is well placed to deliver these services and stands ready to meet the increased demand.

“We also look forward to the passage of the Aged Care and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2025 to ensure the successful commencement of the new Aged Care Act on 1 November 2025. Together, these reforms provide the foundation for a stronger, more equitable aged care system,” Ms Little said.

“Older Australians deserve care that is timely, person-centred, and respectful of their rights. Today’s announcement brings us a step closer to that vision.”
