Executive Officer of Western Australia UnitingCare Agencies

John Berger is the Executive Officer of the UnitingCare Agencies in Western Australia and Chair of the UnitingCare Forum WA. He is a qualified Social Worker and has worked in leadership positions in non-profits and government agencies for over the last 3 decades. It has been noted by many that his leadership and ecosystem thinking have allowed for completely new ways of approaching change in the field of social service delivery in the West Australian context. He is passionate in working with the community particularly those who are vulnerable and ensuring their voice of lived experience is central to informing change.

He is an active member of the Uniting Church in WA and is passionate about connecting the work of the agencies with the broader life of the Uniting Church in WA.

He has held Executive Positions including CEO (St Bart’s) and General Manager (Anglicare WA) roles. He was also the inaugural member of the WA Alliance to End Homelessness and was the Inaugural Chair.

His achievements include developing the Foyer Oxford as the largest Foyer in Australia and key to ending homelessness among young people; and Chair of the Family Inclusion Network WA, the first consumer advocacy group funded in Australia for parents who have children in State Care.

He is a Fellow of Leadership WA and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
