Australia’s major Church providers (Anglicare Australia, Catholic Social Services Australia, St Vincent de Paul Society, The Salvation Army, and UnitingCare Australia) remain committed to walking alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people toward healing and hope.
We reaffirm our commitment to, and support for, the Uluru Statement from the Heart as a generous invitation from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to all Australians.
We know this outcome will raise questions for many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people about what this means for our shared future. As Australia’s major faith-based charitable service networks, we assure you that this result does not in any way diminish our resolve to stay the course of reconciliation.
We will listen to you, we will honour your wisdom and we will celebrate your strengths.
In respect for the Week of Silence that has been called we will be making no further statements.
For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians in need of support, 13YARN (13 92 76) is a support from Lifeline if you are feeling stressed, unwell, or “no good”, after the referendum.
